We Love to Create Challenge #13 Anything Goes/ Mixed Media Goes

So it's the start of a new challenge on the We Love to Create Blog. We like to keep things nice and simple over there and the theme is Anything Goes/ Mixed Media goes. One lucky winner will receive a prize from out generous sponsor Premium Craft Brands.

This week I used my wonderful PanPastels in my Art Journal, to create this busy pastel coloured background and rough, bold flowers.

I started my coating my page with gesso, I found this was a must for using the PanPastels in this journal or the PanPastels would become muted and lost in the paper.
Once dry I blended Orange Tint, Permanent Red Tint and Blue Tint over the top, overlapping and blending then together where they met.

I stamped over the top using various stamps from The Artistic Stamper. By mixing some of the Blue Tint and Red Tint with gesso. I spread the mixture in a thin layer over my craft mat, pressing the stamp into the mixture and transferring it to the journal.

I stamped out two circles as the start of my flowers with Distress Ink, building on them with Titanium White, Violet, and Magenta Shade PanPastels. I blended them all in together using a water brush adding more pigment from the pan as needed.

I finished off by drawing in my flowers and some extra swirls with a black Stabilo pencil, as well as doodling with my white pen.

Pebeo Fantasy Pour canvas

I had never done this before and I did it really badly, really, really badly spraying rubbing alcohol over the paints because I wanted it to move more and I thought it was a good idea. Let me tell you it's not it's a very bad idea, My eyes and my throat hurt by the time I was done, Just don't do it.

My lovely boy got me (with the help of his dad) some Pebeo Fantasy Moon and Prisme paints for Mothers day, which was great as it's something I had never used before. I painted an old canvas with a coat of black gesso and then a coast of very fluid black acrylic, after that I just poured lots of different coloured paints over the top, moving them around with a palette knife and spraying them with the rubbing alcohol (don't do it, it's a very bad idea)

I do really like the result.

We Love to Create Challenge #12 Anything Goes/ Mixed Media Goes

We have a new challenge starting today on the We Love to Create Blog, They like to keep things pretty simple and the theme is Anything Goes/ Mixed Media Goes. I loved seeing everyone's entries for the last challenge and can not wait to see what everyone comes up with this time. For one lucky person, there is the chance to win a prize from our generous sponsor Premium Art Brands.

For my piece this week I created a small canvas, to celebrate the fact that I have seen the sun and felt the sunshine. Hmmmmmm I wonder how long it will last.

To start I mixed a little Orange Tint with some gesso and painted the whole canvas. When I scraped the pigment from the pan I used a pallet knife and was very careful to only scrape across the top and not to dig into the pan. After that, I laid my new favourite brick stencil across the top and applied some Burnt Sienna to the canvas, just on the sides leaving a blank area in the centre.

I took the three pairs of sunglasses and the word fun and coated them in gesso, before making a gesso and pigment mix to paint them with again. The two colours I mixed were Violet and Magenta Shade.

I then stamped over the top with some background stamps and Versa Mark ink. I gently swiped the same colours over the top.  After I sealed everything I doodled over the top with black and white pens.

I was exploring adding Pan Pastel to Gesso to create this small canvas board and looking at how it covered chipboard pieces. For me, it's another win for Pan Pastels as it was easy to do both these things.
